Scale is approximately 1 km per grid square. US 6 comes in from the south and heads out to the west (it is unclear to me if the highway is split on both sides of the Cape Cod Canal or not), MA 3 is the divided highway to the north. The 'frontage' road to the east of MA 3 is MA 3A.
The MA 3 (north) to US 6 (southeast) corridor is the major route from Metro Boston to the Cape Cod area. This is a very busy highway during vacation season, and carries a healthy amount of traffic the rest of the year. This corridor is a full freeway from the I-93/US 1/MA 128 beltline freeway interchange in the Quincy/Braintree area southward to this traffic circle, and then again from the circle deep into the Cape Cod peninsula. Then US 6 goes down to a bona-fide super-two freeway that ends at another traffic circle further in the cape. The two surface roads on either side of the canal west of the bridge connect to MA 25 freeway a short distance away, and that in turn connects to the I-495 'Blue Star memorial' highway to central Massachussetts and I-195 towards Providence, RI.
There have been (and still are) active proposals to eliminate the traffic circle in this corridor, replacing it with a more conventional interchange. These plans have met with stiff resistance, however, from the local business community, fearing a decline in the amount of tourist traffic in the circle stopping at their shops.
**I recommend** constructing an interstate compatible freeway connection between MA 25 and US 6 through Otis Air Force Base/Camp Edwards, averaging 1-3 km southeast of the canal (in addition to completing the circle elimination project).
