Relics Of The Lincoln Highway
Highlighting The Numerous Artifacts Of The Storied Route

Arguably one of the most historic and storied highway in American History, the Lincoln Highway has played a very important in Pennsylvania's road history.  Along it are relics of Colonial Times, the Revolution, the Civil War, and finally Roadside Americana.  From Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and places in between, there are so many pieces to this cultural and nostalgic puzzle.  Currently, this feature of the SWPA Roads Project and PA Road Photos and More showcases the concrete markers that survived as trail blazers for this route.  If you have photos or suggestions for this page please e-mail me at aprince4@nc.rr.com.

This highway marker sits in a shopping center parking lot.  The marker is fortunate to have survived nearly 80 years of wear, as it still sits on the current Lincoln Highway.  (Photos by Bruce Cridlebaugh; 2000)

Located in a residential area on an old alignment of the highway, this homeowner has a little piece of history in his front yard,  (Photo taken by William Lawson; July 2003)

Another front yard marker, this time on an old alignment in a small rural town.  Unlike others, this marker shows an upcoming left hand turn in the highway.  (Photo taken by William Lawson; July 2003)
