Old black on white 'Wake X Rds' sign; Raleigh.  Wake Crossroads was located at the intersection of Mitchell Mill and Forestville Roads.  The sign was taken down in late 2004 for intersection improvements, and a Walgreens Pharmacy. Summer 2004

Interstate 240 North Carolina Shield; Asheville.  This rare find was found on the ramps of the US 70 'Volleyball Interchange June 3, 2001
NC 694 Shield; Asheville.  This sign located just after the beginning of NC 694 is the only other NC 694 shield posted between Tunnel Road and Blue Ridge Parkway.  NC 694 is better known as Town Mountain Road. June 3, 2001

Yadkin Road Marker, NC 2, Pinehurst.  Not sure when it was placed, but a great historical find nonetheless. March 10, 2001
Controlled Access Highway Sign; NC 5 Southern Pines.  Although not a freeway, this sign on NC 5 states that any additional access points are prohibited.  Bill Woodall gives a great explanation of this sign, "... this is actually fairly common in eastern NC - basically warning the locals NOT to add random driveway connections. Usually this is the first public indication that a state or local roadway is being considered for dualization. As of mid-March, there were signs of this nature along US 17 and NC 210 and NC 172 in Onslow County." March 10, 2001

Old Route 15-A Street Sign; Linden.  This sign located at the intersection of US 401/NC 217 is the only known remnant of US 15-A signed. February 2001
