National Road and US 40 Postcards
When I think of postcards, I think of a sweet way of telling friends and loved ones that you are thinking of them and wish they were there.  There are scenic ones, featured ones, comical ones, and those that make you scratch your head.  People have been saving or collecting postcards since they were first sent across this nation.  This page focuses exclusively on postcards old and new relating to and from the National Road and or US 40.  If you would like to include postcards that you may have in your collection to this project, feel free to e-mail me at aprince2@carolina.rr.com.

Since 1814, five different variations has carried the National Road and US 40 over the Muskingum River in Zanesville, Ohio.  The top postcard depicts the 1832 span, a Howe Truss designs, built Cathernius Buckingham.  The second and third spans were covered bridges.  The Buckingham Span stood for 68 years before closing in 1900.  The bridge was reopened in 1902, using the piers of the 1932 span.  The fifth version of the 'Y' Bridge opened to traffic after being refurbished in 1984.
