Laura is a master's graduate from North Carolina State University's English Department. Her research interests are the impact of high school English classes on college writing styles, the influence of Southern American English on basic writers, and the effect of computer-based communications on writing pedagogies.


While at N.C. State, she had a full-tuition fellowship. For the 2004-05 academic year, she served as a graduate consultant for the Campus Writing and Speaking Program. For the 2005-06 school year, she was an instructor for English 101. In March 2006, Laura successfully defended her master's thesis: The Effectiveness of Web Conferencing Technology in Student-Teacher Conferencing in the Writing Classroom: A Study of First-Year Student Writers (Under the direction of Dr. Chris M. Anson).


In May 2006, Laura married Brian LeBlanc in Oak Island, N.C. Laura currently works for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in Durham, N.C. The AICPA is "the national, professional organization for all Certified Public Accountants. Its mission is to provide members with the resources, information, and leadership that enable them to provide valuable services in the highest professional manner to benefit the public as well as employers and clients." Laura is a content editor with the AICPA. As a content editor, Laura works with all professional publications (including AICPA Professional Standards) and some specialized publications.


In her spare time, Laura enjoys traveling to Boone, N.C. to watch the two-time (2005 & 2006) National Champion Appalachian Mountaineers play football. Additionally, Laura and Brian are season ticket holders for the 2006 Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes. Laura and Brian love to "enjoy the state they're in" (and occasionally other states) and take frequent road trips around North Carolina and to and from Morehead City, N.C. to visit Laura's parents.
