Laura is a master's graduate from North Carolina State University's English Department. Her research interests are the impact of high school English classes on college writing styles, the influence of Southern American English on beginning writers, and the effect of computer-based communications on writing pedagogies.

While at N.C. State, she had a full-tuition fellowship. For the 2004–05 academic year, she served as a graduate consultant for the Campus Writing and Speaking Program. For the 2005–06 school year, she was an instructor for English 101. In March 2006, Laura successfully defended her master's thesis: The Effectiveness of Web Conferencing Technology in Student-Teacher Conferencing in the Writing Classroom: A Study of First-Year Student Writers (Under the direction of Dr. Chris M. Anson).

Laura currently works for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in Durham, N.C. as a content manager where she manages the online and print publishing processes for many of the AICPA's professional publications.

She also volunteers with the Literacy Council of Wake County, which helps Wake County adults learn to write, read, and speak English.

In May 2006, Laura married Brian LeBlanc in Oak Island, N.C. In her spare time, Laura enjoys traveling to Boone, N.C. to watch the three-time (2005, 2006, and 2007) National Champion Appalachian State University Mountaineers play football. Laura, Brian, and their dog Gatsby love to take frequent road trips to Ocean, N.C. to visit Laura's parents.
