I-H1/HI 93/HI 95, Honolulu County (Barbers Point), HI

I-H1 goes to the northeast, HI 93 to the northwest and HI 95 heads off to the southwest.

The I-H1/HI 93/HI 95 interchange is the last point on the Interstate Highway System that will see daylight in a year starting with a '1'. It is the west end of I-H1 and connects Ohau's freeway system with the USNaval Air Station at Barbers Point (via HI 901, that's the base at the south edge of the map) and the 'suburban' commuter residential and military areas to the northwest on HI 93 and southwest on HI 95. As one continues on HI 93 from I-H1, the highway quickly downgrades from the interstate freeway to surface 4 lane all the way down to a 4X4 only dirt path in just over 20 km as it approaches Kaena Point (the northwest tip of the island). As the dirt track goes around Kaena point, it becomes HI 930, resuming a pavement after about 5 km. I know of no immediate plans to widen and/or pave this dirt path to complete a navagable roadway around the island.

The railroad shown on the map was used to transport munitions between the USNavy's Lualualei Naval Magzine Reservation (about 10 km to the northwest) and the base at Pearl Harbor. It is likely now a trail, although I CAN envision it someday being restored to provide 'suburban' style commuter service to both the bases along the way and to Honolulu proper.
