I-76/I-276/US 202/US 422 (Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange 24), Upper Merion Township (King of Prussia), PA.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike curves east-west through here, I-76 comes in from the west on the Turnpike and goes out to the southeast on the Schuylkill Expressway, the Turnpike to the east is I-276. US 202 runs east-west south of the Turnpike, crossing it at the east edge of this map. US 422 heads off to the north. Scale is approximately 1 km per UTM grid square.

The King of Prussia area contains one of the more confusing arrays of East Coast highway connections outside of New Jersey. This is an area that evolved into what it is over the decades, starting with the Pennsylvania Turnpike and continuing through the heavy Philadelphia suburban growth of the Chester and Montgomery county suburbs of today. The most recent addition is the extension of the US 422 freeway northwestward through the Valley Forge National Historic Park toward Reading. US 202 is a freeway west of I-76, but a surface 'expressway' to the east.

An example of the possible confusions here is that one currently travelling from westbound I-276 (Penna. Turnpike) to northbound US 422 needs to change route number three times, going from I-276 to I-76 to US 202 to US 422, almost fully around the Valley Forge Country Club golf course (traffic between US 422 and I-76 to/from the west goes completely around the golf course). Other examples include the northwestbound ramps of the PA 363 interchange, snugly fit on I-76 between US 202 and the Turnpike tollgate, which feed through the office complex. Traffic is northeastern USA legendary.

PennDOT has active plans to substantially upgrade this area, although I am unaware of any specifics of their plans. I would recommend that a direct feed between US 422 and the 'Schuylkill' be a part of these upgrades.
