I-20/I-55, Jackson, MS

I-20 runs east-west, I-55 comes in at the uppr right and goes out to the lower left. US 49 multiplexes with I-20, US 51 comes in from the south via I-55 and becomes State Street north of the freeways. US 80 is the east-west street just north of the freeways.

This is one of the more interesting 2 I-route multiplexes in the USA. The origional freeway here was US 51 coming in from the south and feeding into downtown Jackson (at the north edge of the map) via State Street. When the I-routes were built, US 51 to the south was upgraded to become I-55, but the part north of the curve would not 'fit in', so MSDOT designed a neat collector/distributer lane setup to handle the I-20 and I-55 freeway connections. This left US 51 to become a nifty non-interstate downtown 'almost' freeway spur. They also included a pair of interesting access ramp connections to/from State St at the railroad junction just west of the Pearl River.
