I-90/OH 2 'Deadman's Curve', Cleveland, OH

Map scale is approximately 1 km per 'grid' square.

I-90 goes from south to northeast through here, OH 2 from southwest to northeast.

The I-90 'Deadman's Curve' in Cleveland, OH is one of the major traffic bottlenecks of the Great Lakes region. It carries I-90 through traffic from the midwest to northwest Pennsylvania and western New York state (and beyond) plus copious amounts of local traffic. This is an interchange that sort of 'happened'. The 'Cleveland Shoreway' (OH 2) was the origional route through here, I-90 came later. This interchange is very tightly shoehorned between the general aviation 'Burke Lakefront Airport' and the bluffs overlooking Lake Erie. On the top of the bluff is Conrail's ex New York Central mainline to Buffalo and Boston (Soon to be CSX, also the route of Amtrak's 'Lakeshore Limited'), and a block further inland is Conrail's ex Pennsylvania mainline to Pittsburgh (soon to be Norfolk Southern). The I-90 curve is marked at 50 km/h, with rumble strips to protect it.

The I-90 'Inner Belt' freeway south of this interchange is long overdue for major re-engineering, and if and when this occurs, a broadening of the I-90 curve here is a must.
